Types of retirement plansoffered by CLA include a defined benefit pension plan, a defined contribution plan (which includes asupplemental pension plan) & a 401(k) plan.Defined Benefit Pension Plans:Provide retirees with a guaranteed monthly incomeThe CLA Defined Benefit Pension Plan is overseen by a Board of Trustees that provides oversight of theinvestment of the fund’s assets.The Trustee Board has established an investment policy to provide a long-term investment horizon, andthe investment strategy is designed to ensure the prudent investment of assets in a manner that willmaximize the total return subject to the preservation of capital.How well funded is your plan?Both CLA Pension Plans are well-funded and are in the green zone, which means that the pension plans areable to meet the retiree payment obligations.Defined Contribution Plans (CLA has two types of plan offerings):First Type: Supplemental Pension Plan is a Money Purchase/Prevailing Wage Plan - This plan provides alump sum payout at retirement. The Board of Trustees oversees the investment of the plan’s assets,similar to the pension plan.Second Type: 401(k) Plan - This plan allows the union member to defer part of their wage into thisretirement plan. The deferred wages may be pre-tax or Roth (after-tax) up to the 2025 limit of $23,500.The investment options are selected from a Trustee Board approved list. L O C A L U N I O N B O A R D E L E C T I O N S :N O M I N A T I O N & V O T I N G P R O C E S SEach December, a “Nominations” letter is mailed to every Union member within their respective local.This letter outlines the opportunity for members to either nominate themselves or be nominated byanother member for a position on their Local Board.At the local level, the officer positions include President, Secretary, Treasurer, and General Assistant.In addition, each local may elect a limited number of Trustees, who serve in an advisory capacity.The number of trustees is determined per your Local’s Bylaws. All officer and trustee positions aretwo-year terms, with elections staggered to ensure continuity in leadership.Local Board elections are conducted annually, with specific positions open each year in accordancewith the Local’s Bylaws. If more than one individual is nominated for a given position by thenomination deadline outlined in the official notice, the position is considered contested. In suchcases, secret ballots will be distributed to members via the U.S. Postal Service, with a clearly stateddeadline for submission.For Locals 8, 78 and 84, the ballots for contested positions are opened during the Local's AnnualMeeting. If a position is uncontested, the nominee is automatically elected to that Local Boardposition.The next level of leadership is the National Board. National Board Officers are responsible foroverseeing the governance and strategic direction of the organization, as well as managing allmatters related to the welfare of CLA-USA.To be eligible for election to the National Board, an individual must first hold an elected position on aLocal Board. National Board positions include President, Chairperson, Vice President, Treasurer,Secretary, and Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, each serving a four-year term. In addition, each Localmay elect one additional National Board member for every 200 members beyond the initial 200. Forexample, a Local with 400 members may elect two National Board members.As a union member, you have the right to representation during any meeting that could resultin discipline. If you're called into a meeting by management or a supervisor and believe it maylead to disciplinary action, you can invoke your Weingarten Rights. Let them know you wantunion representation, and National Representative will join you for the meeting.Make sure that if you attend a meeting without union representation, you fully understandand agree with anything you are asked to sign.
