401(k) RetirementSet your future self up for financial stability with a 401(k) through Virginia Retirement Systems and Nationwide. Virginia Retirement SystemsAll full-time employees are enrolled in the VRS retirement savings program as a condition of employment. VRS is a defined benefit retirementplan. This means that once you retire with VRS you will receive a monthly benefit for life. Your monthly benefit is calculated on your age atretirement, your average final compensation and your years of service. To be eligible to retire with VRS you must be vested with at least 5years of service with the program, and meet the minimum age requirement. 5% of the employee’s basic monthly compensation will becontributed to his or her account each month. The 5% member contribution is contributed on a pre-tax basis. Please see plan details to learnmore about coverage and plan options.457 Deferred Compensation PlanAll full-time employees and part-time employees who consistently work 20 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in Nationwide’s 457Deferred Compensation Plan. This retirement plan allows public employees like you to set aside money for retirement from every paycheck. Adeferred compensation plan helps you invest more because contributions are pre-tax. Generally, your taxable income in reduced by the amountyou defer. Understanding COBRA: Continuation of Health CoverageFBA Flexible Spending AccountsIf you have a positive balance (payroll deductions are greater than the amount you have received in reimbursement) in your Health Care Spending Account at the time ofyour termination, you may continue participation in the Plan for the remainder of the Plan year. If you want to remain in the Plan, you can do so by selecting one of theCOBRA options. If you prefer to terminate your participation and contribution to the Plan, any balance in your account on the date of termination will be forfeited ifexpenses were not incurred prior to the date of termination. For more detailed information, please contact Human Resources at 540.727.3422 or Flexible BenefitAdministrators at 1.800.437.3539.Health and Dental PlansUnder the Health and Dental Plans, you and your covered dependents are eligible to continue coverage through COBRA according to the “qualifying events”.If you and your dependents are enrolled in the dental or health plans, you will be eligible to continue coverage through COBRA after you leave your employment for aspecified period. In addition, while covered under the plan, if you should die, become divorced or legally separated, or become eligible for Medicare, your covereddependents may be eligible to continue dental coverage through COBRA. Also, while you are covered under the plan, you covered children who no longer qualify as aneligible dependent may continue coverage through COBRA. Examples of an ineligible dependent would be when your child reaches the age of not being eligible fordependent coverage. You will receive notification with premium and continuation options shortly following your termination of employment. Should you have any questionsyou may contact Human Resources at 540.727.3422.Colonial LifeYou may continue your Colonial policies for yourself and eligible dependents who are covered when you terminate employment. For more information, contact Colonial Lifeat 1.800.325.4368.Securian National LifeYou no longer have life insurance if you (1) terminate employment with Culpeper County Schools and (2) do not meet the minimum age and service requirements to receivea retirement benefit with VRS at the time of separation. If you retire through VRS or meet the minimum age and service requirements at the time of separation, your basicgroup life benefit remains in effect at no cost to you. However, the amount of Basic retiree insurance is reduced.Continuation of Benefits
